I was sent the Cooks Essentials Microwave Pressure Cooker last week to review, and I need to tell you I was skeptical. I remember my grandma using her pressure cooker for two things, canning and cooking beans. It being brought out included dire warnings about coming near it.

I'm sure you have all seen the adds for this device in newspapers and on TV for months, but I never knew anyone who actually had tried one until I received the Big Boss Blender & Soup Maker from Amazon this week.

I decided to use one of the recipes included in their cookbook instead of one of my own to make sure I gave a product I was pretty sceptical of a fair chance.

The recipe was for Corn and Chicken Soup, and the directions were pretty simple. Add the ingredients, hit a button and 30 minutes later I was supposed to have soup for four ready to eat.

The first soup from our new soup maker actually came out amazingly good with almost no effort.

It seemed a little thin, but actually was pretty decent, and was cooked through and blended in exactly thirty minutes. The family was quite impressed, and I was blown away that it actually worked as easily as described.

If you love soup and want a way to make it easier and with almost zero effort, this is an awesome idea that deserves a spot on your counter top.

Kickstarted: EVAK Food Storage Container

In November of 2013 a design firm in New York called Pollen Designs launched a project on Kickstarter.com for a new type of storage container they called EVAK, which was designed to remove air from the container while the lid was put in place, creating a vacuum seal and helping to keep dry goods fresh longer.

Dinner Tonight: Ham and Cheese Scones with Bacon Gravy

Like any Fat Boy, I love biscuits and gravy. I sometimes get tired of the same old thing though, so I decided to try taking biscuits and gravy up a level. In place of biscuits I went with a savory scone filled with ham and cheddar cheese, and I smothered it in a classic bacon gravy.

I'm sorry that I haven't posted for a while, but we have been in the midst of the kitchen remodel that would not end. We went from a classic late '70s oak paneled kitchen with failing appliances to a modern kitchen that is as close to my dream kitchen as we could get given space limitations.
